Segworks joins ICT industry’s relief operation in Iligan January 11, 2012Posted by administrator in General.
With the support of BPAP, CCAP, NICP, and concerned individuals, Davao Software Industry, Inc. (DSII) and ICT Davao, Inc. (IDI) launched a relief operation for the Typhoon Sendong victims of Iligan City. Segworks provided the vehicle to ferry the team, headed by Myrna Padilla and Bert Barriga, to Iligan City. With the organizational assistance provided by Gawad Kalinga through Jun and Lorelyn Dumaug, reliefs goods on board a 40-footer container van were swiftly unloaded and re-packed right in the middle of Barangay Hinaplanon where the raging waters spawned by Typhoon Sendong wiped out all inhabited areas within the vicinity of Magdulog River. A second round of relief operation is slated during the second week of January 2011.
President Sam Matunog and Consultant Adrian Flores represented Segworks in the Philippine Health Outlook Forum 2011 at the AIM in Makati on December 13, 2011. Ambassador Roberto R. Romulo opened the forum with an overview of the theme “Pursuing Universal Health Care and Health MDGs through Public-Private Partnership.” He was followed by the annual health review presented by DOH Secretary Enrique Ona. Dr. Eduardo Banzon, the new PhilHealth President announced major initiatives being undertaken by the national health insurance corporation, among them the appointment of Dr. Alvin Marcelo as Chief Information Officer of the corporation. DOH Undersecretary Teodor Herbosa then briefed the participants on the DOH Policy Framework for PPP in Health.
Two breakout sessions then convened, with Group 1 tackling the issue of PPP opportunities for health and in the pharmaceutical sector, and Group 2 concentrating on PPP opportunities in the local government sector.
When the participants reconvened in plenary, Ms. Esther Go of Medilink, representing the Technical Working Group – ICT4H, presented the recommendations of the group concerning, among others, Health IT Enterprise Architecture, Standards, and Capacity-Building. It was a very substantive and well-received report.
With most of the participants staying on until the conclusion of proceedings, the impression that one got is a sense of optimism that by 2015 the Philippines might just be able to dramatically reduce maternal mortality rate to 52.3 per 100,000 births, from the current level of 162 as of 2011, and infant mortality rate of 19 per 10,000 births, from the current level of 24.9. These are some of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) which the country committed to achieve by 2015.
